The holidays have a way of sneaking up on us, don’t they? One minute we’re sipping our usual Tuesday morning coffee, and the next we’re staring at a calendar full of school events, travel plans, client deadlines, family expectations, and an inexplicable urge to bake something that takes six hours.
If you’re feeling the swirl — emotionally, mentally, energetically — you’re not alone. For many entrepreneurs and small business owners, the holiday season brings heightened pressure alongside less time, more noise, and a deep desire to do it all “right.”
So let’s slow this down.
Let’s normalize the overwhelm.
And let’s talk about how to ground yourself when everything around you feels like it’s spinning.
If you feel extra drained this time of year, there’s a reason:
You're carrying both your personal life and your business on your shoulders.
Your emotional labor load spikes — family dynamics, gift-giving decisions, social events, expectations, boundaries.
Your nervous system is already stretched thin from the past year of entrepreneurship.
You’re juggling an increased workload while the world collectively becomes more chaotic.
None of this means you’re doing anything wrong. It means you’re human. When we name the pressure, we give ourselves permission to release some of it.
You don’t need a 30-minute meditation or a weekend retreat to get grounded (although those are great too). Start small and start where you are.
Hand on heart + deep breath
Close your eyes, breathe in for four, out for six. Tell your body, “We are safe.”
Micro-pauses throughout your day
60 seconds between tasks. Look away from your screens, unclench your jaw, take a few deep, slow breaths, and stretch for 1 minute.
Intentional movement
A slow walk, light stretch, or even standing up and shaking out your arms throughout your day.
Digital boundaries
Put your phone in another room for an hour. The world will still spin without you, we promise.=
These grounding moments won’t remove all of your responsibilities or shorten your To Do list, but they do help you meet them all more steadiness and calm.
The holidays tend to test our boundaries more than any other time of year. And as entrepreneurs, we often feel added pressure to be more available to friends and family because we have the “flexibility” of creating our own work days.
So this season, try practicing a few self-loving boundaries:
→ Saying no without over-explaining
“No, that doesn’t work for me” is a complete sentence, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
→ Communicating realistic availability
For clients and family. Let people know what you can do — and what you cannot.
→ Pulling back when something feels energetically expensive
If interacting drains you more than it fills you, it’s okay to limit it.
Boundaries aren’t walls, they’re clarity and self-respect in real time practice.
If your energy dips during November and December, you’re not doing anything wrong, it’s literally your body following its natural rhythm. Nature slows down this time of year and primitively connected selves want to, too.
Here’s what slowing down can look like:
Simplifying your offer or workload for a few weeks
Deciding not to take on new clients until January
Allowing tasks to stretch out instead of rushing
Creating space in your schedule for rest, reflection, and family
You don’t earn your worth by pushing harder this time of year. You protect your capacity by honoring your limits and natural rhythms.
The holiday overwhelm spiral is a very real part of life, and as entrepreneurs, part of business.
If you feel tired, scattered, or overwhelmed, nothing is wrong with you, you’re not falling behind and you’re not failing. You’re simply feeling what you were never meant to carry alone.
Ground yourself when and where you can, prioritize your natural flow and, above all, give yourself grace in all of it.
And remember — support exists for a reason.
