Let’s Talk About Money: The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

July 15, 20255 min read

Let’s be real: talking about money as an entrepreneur can feel…complicated.

Pricing your services, asking to be paid what you’re worth, and then actually believing you deserve it? That can stir up a lot of feelings, a lot of frustrations, and a lot of deeply held beliefs around worthiness and money in general.

And that’s the truth at the heart of it - your relationship with money impacts everything in your business. From how you show up to how you sell to how you structure your offers and pricing.

But we’re not here to tell you how to “do it right” or follow someone else’s rules, we want to help you better understand the stickiness, know what feels the most comfortable and aligned and then build confidence from there.

Why Charging What You’re Worth Feels So Hard

If you’ve ever hesitated or second guessed when setting prices for your services, you’re not alone.

So many entrepreneurs, and people in general, carry money wounds. These long held and deeply seeded beliefs are shaped by your upbringing, your culture, and any self-doubt you’ve picked up along the way.

Money wounds whisper…

Who are you to charge that?”

“Money is the root of all evil, you don’t want to be evil, do you?”

“If you charge that much you’ll never find clients.”

Sound familiar?

We worry about being too expensive, losing business, or not being “good enough” to justify our rates. These feelings are real, honest and valid, but staying stuck in your money wounds and undercharging for your work only hurts you and your business.

Recognizing these fears is the first step toward healing them and stepping into your worth.

A Major Money Mindset Shift

One mindset shift that can change everything?

Treating your pricing like an experiment instead of a final answer.

A good rule of thumb when deciding how you’re going to price yourself: if the number you say out loud makes you slightly uncomfortable — even a little nauseous — you’re probably closer to your true worth than you think.

That discomfort usually signals growth, not danger.

However, you don’t have to jump straight to those big dream numbers overnight! Start where you feel somewhat comfortable, then slowly raise your rates as you build confidence and heal your mindset and money wounds.

Each small, intentional increase helps you rewrite your money story and trust that you really can charge what you’re worth — and find clients who will happily pay it.

Beware of the “Shoulds”

One of the biggest traps entrepreneurs fall into is listening to all the advice about what you should be charging.

You’ll hear people say, “Charge premium prices to attract premium clients!” or, “Never work for less than X amount!”, and while these can be well-intentioned, they are not gospel truth.

Your pricing has to work for you — your business model, your lifestyle, and where you are on your journey and in your mindset growth. What feels aligned and sustainable right now may not match what someone else thinks you “should” charge, and that’s totally okay.

Trust yourself to know when it’s time to stretch and when it’s time to hold steady.

The more you tune into your own needs instead of everyone else’s opinions, the more empowered — and confident — you’ll feel in your pricing decisions.

4 Steps To Start Healing Your Relationship with Money

Your money wounds don’t heal overnight, it took years to establish them so don’t beat yourself up if it takes some time and patience to work through them.

Start by giving yourself permission to acknowledge them without any kind of judgment - they are not right or wrong, they just are. Notice where fear, shame, or discomfort shows up when you think about pricing your services or asking to be paid.

Then, take a few intentional steps to start shifting your mindset:

  1. Test a new price that feels just outside your comfort zone — the one that makes your stomach flip a little — and see how it feels to say it out loud.

  2. Celebrate when someone agrees to pay you what you ask!

  3. Practice affirmations or journal about your worth and the value you bring to your clients.

  4. Surround yourself with people (mentors, peers, or even podcasts and books) who speak about money in a healthy, empowering way.

Each step you take helps to build confidence, heal old wounds, and bring you closer to charging what you’re truly worth, and feeling good about it.

Your relationship with money is deeply personal, and shifting your mindset around it truly is a journey that only you can take. Remember first that there’s no one “right” way to price your services or “perfect” time to raise your rates.

What matters most, and what will be the most transformational in the long run, is that you’re moving forward with self-awareness, courage, and patience for yourself.

Shifting your money mindset and learning to confidently charge what you’re worth is just one part of the entrepreneurial journey — and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
