Summer Vibes & Small Business Goals: Can You Have Both?

June 09, 20265 min read

Most of us have been trained to believe we have to choose between two things we really want.

Either you're the entrepreneur who's building something serious, or you're the person enjoying their life over the summer and your business goes on the back burner. It’s one or the other, right?

Well, here's what we think: That's lazy, simplistic thinking and we’re all better than that.

You absolutely can have both summer vibes and real business momentum, but not the way most people go about it.

The Myth of the Summer Business Trade-offs

There's a version of entrepreneurship that says if you just work hard enough, you can have everything - you can build a thriving business AND enjoy your life, as long as you're willing to optimize every minute, wake up at 5 AM, and hustle through the weekend.

That sounds exhausting and it’s also, very not true.

Then there's another version that says you're delusional and unrealistic if you think you can both grow a business and actually enjoy your summer (or any time off).

You have to be realistic. You have to pick one. And you must accept that building something requires sacrifice. (None of this is true.)

The actual truth is that yes, you can have both. But the way you get both isn't through harder work or better time management or more discipline, it's just better business design.

What Happens When You Try to Do Summer Business Manually

Most entrepreneurs try to pull off the summer-vibes-and-business-goals combo by sheer force of will.

Their early summer days look something like this:

  • Up with the sun

  • Answer emails before 9 AM

  • Create content in dedicated blocks

  • Follow up with leads

  • Nurture their list with an email

  • Show up on social media for requisite engagement & posting

  • Client work & follow up

  • MAYBE get to the bbq on time or to the pool before it closes

And for about three weeks, they almost pulled it off! But by mid-June, things start to fall apart:

  • The content calendar commitment starts to waver.

  • Leads stop getting followed up with because you're too busy serving existing clients.

  • Email sequences don't go out because you're at a sunny farmer’s market.

You either become absent from your business - which creates stressed fueled panic - or absent from summer - which creates business resentment.

And that’s just the start of an unintentional summer slow down that may or may not directly impact your business bottom line.

The reason a manual business summer doesn't work isn't because you're not disciplined enough, it’s because your human capacity to manage it all while missing out on real life joy is very limited!

The Small Business Systems Summer Shift

Everything changes when you move from manual to automated.

Not automated in the sense of "set it and forget it forever”, automated in the sense of "this specific task doesn't require my daily attention because I've built a system that handles it."

Your automated summer business looks like:

  • Your email welcome sequence goes out when someone subscribes—without you sending each one individually.

  • Your follow-up reminders go to people who attended your webinar—without you manually checking who needs a message.

  • Your client onboarding happens step by step—without you walking each client through it separately.

  • Your content gets distributed across your platforms—without you reposting it manually.

These aren't things that require your strategic genius. They're just operational tasks that follow a pattern you've already figured out.

This is where the summer vibes actually become possible. You’re not working less, you’re being strategic and efficient with your working time because the admin-type tasks are being done in the background.

Your working time is concentrated where it actually matters - the strategic decisions, the client relationships, the creative thinking, the teaching.

What Actually Happens With Better Summer Systems

Ok, imagine this:
It's a mid-June morning, you take your coffee out onto the patio and the weather is beautiful. The forecast promises clear skies, tons of sun, and pool perfect temperatures.

You do a quick mental business check in: can you pack the pool bag and go lounge for the day?

Well, let’s see:

  • Your email sequences are running.

  • People who signed up for your list three weeks ago are getting the right message at the right time, moving through a journey you designed once and that now runs on its own.

  • Your client onboarding is happening—new clients are getting their welcome materials, their account is set up, their first session is scheduled.

  • Your content from last week is still getting shared.

  • Your webinar registrations are flowing in. Y

  • Your past clients are getting their nurture emails.

Yep, the business is moving forward and you absolutely can spend a few hours reading in the sun with the crisp scent of chlorine drifting on the breeze.

That's not just summer vibes, that's small business freedom that actually works.

The Real Difference

Here's what changes when you have the right systems in place: You stop operating from scarcity and panic.

When you know your business is being handled - sequences are running, clients are being taken care of, leads are being nurtured - you can actually relax, take a breath, and enjoy the life you’re actually living!

When you trust the systems you've built, you can step away without constantly wondering what you're missing or what’s slipping through the cracks.

This is where platforms like Automation on a Mission become the difference between burnout and sustainability! Especially when everything is integrated in one place.

When your email, your client management, your scheduling, your follow-up all live together and work together seamlessly, your business can focus on the real reason it even exists - to serve your clients and live life on your terms!

Seriously, You Can Have Both

Summer vibes and real business goals aren't mutually exclusive, they just require you to be intentional about where you're spending your energy and smart about what you're automating.

You get to enjoy the season, be present with your kids and your friends and the beautiful weather, and your business keeps moving forward because it's built on systems that don't require your constant attention.

It's a simple strategy and it's the only way to build something sustainable while also building the life you wanted in the first place.

So this summer, don't choose - design instead!
